Smeatons gin

Smeatons gin – Bristol Method Dry gin

The enormous boom in gin will not have escaped your attention. And while many are rushing to capitalise and get new products to market, others take a very different approach. Smeaton’s Bristol Method Dry Gin has been almost a decade in the making, resurrects an original Victorian recipe and is produced using techniques deemed too costly, labour intensive and time consuming by the majority of distillers. There’s no gimmicky ingredients, no big marketing budget and no celebrity endorsement, just one of the finest premium gins we’ve tasted in a very long time.
Smeaton’s discovered a book written in 1869 suggesting a long lost Bristol Gin. This led them to the Bristol Archives on Smeaton Road and a handwritten recipe from 1870. After many years of researching and refining, they’ve recreated it. Eight botanicals – juniper, angelica, calamus, cinnamon, coriander, liquorice, Valencia orange and orris – are each distilled separately in copper alembic stills while fresh and in season. They are then blended together batch-by-batch, before being rested for three months before release.
