Glendalough Wild Botanical Gin is a new chapter in the history of Ireland’s Glendalough Distillery. Since Summer 2014, they have been distilling exceptional seasonal gins at their distillery in County Wicklow with the help of local forager Geraldine Kavanagh. Each season, Geraldine keeps a close watch over the local flowers, fruits and herbs blossoming in the countryside around the distillery and when the time is right she leads a team out into the valley to pick the botanicals by hand, which are distilled that day to capture their fresh flavours.
Glendalough’s seasonal gins quickly established a loyal following amongst gin enthusiasts. Bartenders soon began requesting the team to create a gin that would be available all year round, so as well as the seasonal gins they could always offer their customers a selection of Glendalough gin cocktails no matter the time of year.
Master distiller Rowdy Rooney and Geraldine set to work creating a new all-seasons gin. After much experimentation with different botanicals, they found a selection of botanicals foraged as always from the hills, fields and forests in and around the Glendalough valley that perfectly captured the changing seasons. With a fresh nose reminiscent of Spring leading to Summer flowers and citrus, Autumn fruits and Winter spice, Glendalough Wild Botanical Gin really does transport you to County Wicklow, known locally as the Garden of Ireland. An astonishingly good gin and a must try for any craft gin enthusiast.
